Original abstract artwork by André Debono, created circa 2000 using mixed media on several cut, painted and assembled metal plates.
The composition is constructed from four slightly offset geometric surfaces, combining different shades of blue with a deep black panel. One of the metal plates displays a particularly rich textured treatment, created through layers of paint, scraping, scratching and controlled surface alteration, with areas of exposed metal remaining visible.
The artist creates a strong contrast between the disciplined geometry of the assembled panels and the freer, more spontaneous treatment of their surfaces. The slight differences in depth between the plates give the work a sculptural quality and create subtle shadows when displayed on a wall.
The artwork is intended to be displayed without a frame, as its metal construction and layered assembly form an integral part of the composition.
