Gilbert Portanier (1926-2023) fut l’une des grandes figures de la céramique moderne française. Formé à Paris en architecture, il s’installe à Vallauris en 1948 où il fréquente Picasso, Roger Capron ou encore Jean Derval. Refusant la répétition, il développe une œuvre protéiforme, inventive, à la croisée de la peinture et de la céramique. Exposé internationalement, Portanier est reconnu pour son geste libre, son goût pour la couleur et son approche sculpturale de l’objet. Ses créations figurent dans de nombreuses collections publiques et privées.
