Biographie de l’artiste
Hans Hartung est né à Leipzig en 1904 et mort à Antibes en 1989. Peintre franco-allemand majeur du XXe siècle, il est l’une des grandes figures de l’abstraction lyrique et de la peinture gestuelle européenne. Très tôt attiré par les formes dynamiques, les tensions de la ligne et les phénomènes naturels comme les éclairs, il développe un langage abstrait fondé sur le rythme, l’énergie et la spontanéité du geste. Installé en France, il s’impose après-guerre comme un artiste essentiel de l’École de Paris. Son œuvre est aujourd’hui conservée dans de nombreuses collections publiques et fait l’objet d’un important travail de référence par la Fondation Hartung-Bergman à Antibes.

Artist Biography
Hans Hartung was born in Leipzig in 1904 and died in Antibes in 1989. A major German-French artist of the 20th century, he is widely associated with lyrical abstraction and European gestural painting. From an early age, Hartung was fascinated by movement, tension, light and natural phenomena such as lightning, all of which later influenced his abstract visual language. After settling in France, he became a central figure of the post-war École de Paris. His work is now held in numerous public collections and is extensively documented by the Hartung-Bergman Foundation in Antibes.
