Biographie
Née à Riga en 1959, Helga Jaksone est une artiste lettone formée au lycée artistique Jānis Rozentāls de Riga puis à l’Académie des arts de Lettonie, dans l’atelier de peinture du professeur I. Zariņš, où elle obtient son diplôme en 1984. Elle est également titulaire d’une maîtrise en lettres. Entre 1993 et 1994, elle poursuit sa formation à la faculté de pédagogie et de psychologie de l’Université de Lettonie, où elle obtient une maîtrise en pédagogie. Membre de l’Union des artistes lettons depuis 1990, elle a aussi exercé une activité d’enseignement, notamment comme conférencière au département des arts visuels de l’Université de Lettonie, avant de devenir directrice adjointe de l’École de musique et d’art de Bolderāja à Riga.
Son travail a évolué d’une recherche sur la lumière, l’ombre et le volume vers une peinture davantage centrée sur la stylisation et la figure humaine. Les grandes compositions à plusieurs personnages ont progressivement laissé place à des œuvres où la présence humaine devient l’élément central, chargée d’une forte intensité expressive. Helga Jaksone a exposé non seulement en Lettonie, mais aussi en Russie, en France, en Allemagne, en Finlande, en Israël, en Estonie, en Géorgie et en Australie. Biography
Born in Riga in 1959, Helga Jaksone is a Latvian artist who studied at the Jānis Rozentāls Art High School in Riga and later at the Latvian Academy of Arts, in the painting studio of Professor I. Zariņš, graduating in 1984. She also holds a master’s degree in the humanities. Between 1993 and 1994, she continued her studies at the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology of the University of Latvia, where she earned a master’s degree in pedagogy. A member of the Latvian Artists’ Union since 1990, she has also been active in art education, including work as a lecturer in the Department of Visual Arts at the University of Latvia, and later as deputy director of the Bolderāja Music and Art School in Riga.
Her work evolved from an early interest in light, shadow, and volume toward a more stylized painterly language centered on the human figure. Large multi-figure narrative compositions gradually gave way to works in which the human presence becomes the dominant element, carrying strong expressive intensity. Helga Jaksone has exhibited not only in Latvia, but also in Russia, France, Germany, Finland, Israel, Estonia, Georgia, and Australia.
