Rare et spectaculaire masque mural en faïence émaillée polychrome de Jacques Sagan (1927-2004), céramiste associé à Vallauris et à l'âge d'or de la céramique française.
Cette importante pièce de 43 cm de hauteur présente une composition particulièrement expressive : grand visage stylisé traité dans un émail noir profond, enrichi de reliefs géométriques et de couleurs vives – rouge, orange, jaune, vert et bleu. La partie supérieure est surmontée d'un personnage modelé tandis que les éléments latéraux, les anses et les motifs en relief donnent à l'ensemble une présence très sculpturale.
L'esthétique volontairement primitive et africaniste, caractéristique d'une partie de la production de Jacques Sagan, s'inscrit pleinement dans les recherches décoratives développées à Vallauris durant les années 1950-1960. Plusieurs masques de l'artiste de cette période sont aujourd'hui documentés sur le marché.

Rare and striking polychrome glazed earthenware wall mask by Jacques Sagan (1927-2004), a French ceramic artist closely associated with Vallauris and the golden age of postwar French ceramics.
This impressive 43 cm / 16.9 in. high piece features a highly expressive composition, with a large stylized face finished in deep black glaze and decorated with brightly colored geometric reliefs in red, orange, yellow, green and blue. A modeled figure crowns the upper section, while the lateral ornaments, handles and raised decorative elements give the piece a particularly strong sculptural presence.
Its deliberately primitive and African-inspired aesthetic is characteristic of an important part of Jacques Sagan's work and reflects the artistic experimentation that flourished in Vallauris during the 1950s and 1960s. Several masks by the artist from this period are documented on the art market.
