Très important pot en grès tourné de François Lanusé, né en 1938, signé sous la base.
Cette grande pièce témoigne de la puissance du travail de Lanusé autour du grès, de la terre brute et des émaux de haute température. La forme est ample, presque architecturale, avec une large panse, un col ouvert et ourlé, et une présence sculpturale remarquable.
La surface associe une terre chaude, laissée en grande partie brute, à un émail riche concentré autour du col.
Les nuances mêlent rouge rosé, vert profond, brun et reflets plus clairs, dans un bel effet de matière lié à la cuisson au feu de bois.
Le décor est particulièrement intéressant : autour du haut de la panse se déploie une frise de petits personnages réalisés au tampon, d’inspiration archaïque ou sumérienne.
La partie centrale est soulignée par un second décor en relief, formant une frise circulaire plus géométrique.
L’ensemble donne à cette œuvre un caractère à la fois primitif, méditatif et très contemporain.
Pièce rare par son format, sa présence et la qualité de son travail de surface.

Très bon état général.
Les variations de matière, petites aspérités, effets de cuisson, projections et irrégularités de surface sont propres au travail du grès et à la cuisson au feu de bois.

Biographie
François Lanusé, né en 1938, est un céramiste français installé historiquement au Castellet, dans le Var. D’abord proche de la peinture, il se tourne vers la céramique dans les années 1960 et développe progressivement une œuvre centrée sur le grès, les émaux de grand feu et la recherche d’une forme juste.
Sa rencontre avec Daniel de Montmollin à Taizé dans les années 1970 marque une étape importante dans son parcours. Elle l’oriente vers une approche exigeante de l’émail, de la cuisson et de la relation entre la matière et la spiritualité. Ses pièces, souvent sobres dans leurs formes mais très riches dans leurs surfaces, témoignent d’une sensibilité proche des traditions orientales et japonaises, où l’accident maîtrisé du feu devient partie intégrante de l’œuvre.
Aujourd’hui retiré de la production, François Lanusé laisse une œuvre rare, recherchée par les amateurs de céramique contemporaine française, notamment pour la profondeur de ses émaux et la force silencieuse de ses pièces en grès.

Very large turned stoneware jar by François Lanusé, born in 1938, signed underneath the base.
This impressive piece reflects Lanusé’s strong work with stoneware, raw clay surfaces and high-temperature glazes. The form is generous and almost architectural, with a broad rounded body, an open rolled rim and a remarkable sculptural presence.
The surface combines a warm sandy clay body, largely left raw, with a rich and vibrant glaze concentrated around the neck.
The glaze shows beautiful shades of pinkish red, deep green, brown and lighter tones, with natural variations created by wood firing.
The piece was placed inside the kiln, resulting in subtle flame effects, natural ash marks and lively surface textures.
The decoration is especially distinctive. Around the upper body runs a stamped frieze of small figures, with an archaic or Sumerian-inspired feel. The central part of the body is also highlighted by a raised circular frieze with a more organic rhythm. The result is a powerful work, both primitive in spirit and deeply contemporary in presence.
A rare piece due to its large scale, strong visual impact and quality of surface treatment.
 
Condition
Very good overall condition.
Surface variations, small irregularities, firing marks, natural speckling and rougher areas are inherent to the stoneware process and wood-fired technique.

Biography
François Lanusé, born in 1938, is a French ceramic artist historically based in Le Castellet, in the South of France. Initially drawn to painting, he turned to ceramics in the 1960s and gradually developed a body of work focused on stoneware, high-fired glazes and a deep search for balance in form.
His meeting with Daniel de Montmollin in Taizé during the 1970s was an important moment in his artistic development. It guided him toward a demanding approach to glaze research, firing and the relationship between matter and spirituality. His pieces often combine restrained forms with richly nuanced surfaces, showing an affinity with Eastern and Japanese ceramic traditions, where the controlled unpredictability of fire becomes an essential part of the work.
No longer active as a ceramic producer today, François Lanusé left a rare and highly personal body of work, sought after by collectors of French contemporary ceramics for the depth of his glazes and the quiet strength of his stoneware pieces.
