Gilbert Thévenot (1921-2018) est un peintre français dont le parcours s’est construit très tôt dans un rapport direct au dessin, à la matière et à la couleur. Formé après-guerre dans l’atelier d’Othon Friesz à la Grande Chaumière, il conserve de cet héritage un goût marqué pour l’énergie du trait, les contrastes francs et une peinture construite avec sensibilité. Après ses débuts liés au paysage, son œuvre évolue progressivement vers des recherches plus libres sur les formes, les rythmes colorés et l’organisation de l’espace pictural. Exposant dès les années 1950, notamment au Club Saint-Germain, à la Galerie Cini ou encore à la Galerie Bellechasse, il développe au fil des décennies un travail personnel où se rejoignent exigence artisanale, puissance de la matière et liberté de composition.

Gilbert Thevenot (1921-2018) was a French painter whose artistic path was shaped early on by drawing, color, and material. After World War II, he trained in the studio of Othon Friesz at La Grande Chaumiere, where he developed a lasting interest in energetic line, bold contrasts, and expressive structure. After beginning with landscape-based subjects, his work gradually moved toward a freer exploration of form, color relationships, and pictorial space. Exhibiting from the 1950s onward, including at the Club Saint-Germain, Galerie Cini, and Galerie Bellechasse, he built a personal body of work that combines painterly discipline, material strength, and compositional freedom.
