Biographie
Pierre Raffi est né le 8 février 1919 à Alger. Il suit les cours de l’École des Beaux-Arts d’Alger, avant de s’établir en France en 1940 pour poursuivre sa formation à l’École des Beaux-Arts de Paris. Il retourne ensuite en Algérie en 1949. Proche de figures intellectuelles comme Albert Camus et Max-Pol Fouchet, il participe à plusieurs expositions collectives, notamment au Salon des Réalités Nouvelles à Paris, et présente également son travail dans le cadre d’expositions personnelles.
Sa peinture s’inscrit dans le courant de l’abstraction de l’École de Paris. Elle développe une écriture construite, sensible et lumineuse, que l’on peut rapprocher par l’esprit de certains artistes comme Villon, Bissière ou Nicolas de Staël, sans relever pour autant d’une abstraction purement informelle ou entièrement lyrique.

He later returned to Algeria in 1949. Close to intellectual figures such as Albert Camus and Max-Pol Fouchet, he took part in several group exhibitions, including the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles in Paris, and also presented his work in solo exhibitions.
His painting belongs to the abstract tradition of the School of Paris. His work is structured, sensitive and luminous, and may be compared in spirit to artists such as Villon, Bissière or Nicolas de Staël, while remaining distinct from purely informal or fully lyrical abstraction.
